Pippi Longstocking is nine years old. She has bright red hair, odd stockings and lives all alone in a house called Villa Villekulla. Well, not all alone, her horse and a monkey named Mr. Nilsson live there as well. Pippi does things her own way: she sleeps with her feet on the pillow and her head under the covers, she bakes cookies on the floor, and plays tag with policemen. She is also strong. In fact, she is the strongest girl in the world! She is able to lift a horse over her head, wrestle strongmen at the circus, and take on burglars single-handedly – fun, cheeky and kind, she has become an icon for worldwide child-empowerment.
For generations, children have identified themselves with Pippi’s independent spirit.
